Learnlings for schools and PTAs
A creature card game for TK to 5th grade where the only way to earn a card is to learn something. This page is a short brief for review, with a feedback form at the end. It is a prototype; nothing here is live with students.
What students do
Short quests in seven subjects: math, reading, science, the world, logic and coding, memory, and kindness. Many quests build critical thinking: deduction, patterns, estimation, cause and effect, map skills, and telling fact from opinion. Right answers earn creature cards; rare cards take several days of practice, which builds spaced learning into the game.
Not reading yet? TK and kindergarten students use Parent Assist: a parent, guardian or older sibling from the family profile reads each question aloud and the child picks the answer. Every question also has a tap-to-hear button, and first-reader quests cover letter sounds, picture words and “say it with me” practice.
Safety and privacy
- Today the website collects nothing from children. The waitlist is for adults only.
- In the app: children appear only as a first name and an avatar. No chat, no ads, no third-party tracking.
- A parent creates and controls each child profile, with consent before any account exists.
- Collect the minimum: progress and answers, nothing else. Families can export or delete their data.
- Before any classroom use, the school or district signs a student data privacy agreement, as California requires.
- Fair play: honest mistakes cost nothing; only rushed guessing is slowed down. Nothing that affects learning can be bought.
Proposed pilot
What we're asking the board
- Your honest feedback using the form below.
- Permission to share a short parent interest survey in the PTA newsletter.
- An introduction to the principal to discuss a possible classroom pilot later.
Common questions
- Does it replace teaching? No. It's practice and motivation, like a reading log or math facts app, designed to support what kids learn in class.
- Does it follow the curriculum? Quests are built around TK to 5th grade skills. Mapping each quest to California standards is on the roadmap.
- What does it cost families? The core game is free. An optional family pass unlocks extra lands and styles, never cards or advantages.
- Who is building it? A local parent and PTA volunteer, as an independent project.
